Christmas baskets for needy families

Again this year, Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church is working with the Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities (SCHC) to provide “baskets” of gift cards to families identified by SCHC as needing help.

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit us all, but it has most severely impacted the poorest and most vulnerable people in our community.  As we all know, central to our Christian belief is the direction to “Love our neighbour”.

As in the past few years, our church has agreed to help eight families with an average of six people per family. In view of the pandemic, SCHC has requested that we simply provide the cash and they will buy the gift cards and put them together in packages for the families and deliver them, or have them picked up. Each family will receive $25.00 per family member and $100 for groceries.

So, for eight families, we need to raise $2,000. Our deadline is December 8. Accordingly, donations are requested of $25, $50, $100 or what you would like to give. All donations will receive a tax receipt. Please send your cheque payable to Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church to Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church, 140 Guildwood Parkway, Scarborough, ON, M1E 1P4, or drop it off at the church. Please identify your donation as for the Christmas Gift Baskets project. Or donate easily and securely online; select the “Mission Project” Fund and add the text “SCHC Christmas baskets” to the message field.

Thank you for your support.
