“Golden Scores of Cinema” Concert – A Word from our ‘Impresario’ Brooks Gorst

Dear Friends,

With The Golden Scores of Cinema only days away on Saturday October 22, at 7 pm in the Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church sanctuary, I wanted to take one last opportunity to invite you to the concert.  It will truly be one of a kind as I will be performing orchestral score reductions of Hollywood and International films on the piano… and a few even on the organ.  Joining me that evening will be a high soprano opera singer, a professional clarinetist, and flautist.  Also, you will be surprised to hear the accordion accompanying The Godfather.  You will also hear from some local GCPC talent with medleys based on classic musical films like The Sound of Music and West Side Story.

How is this event unique?  All films will have their matching scenes displayed on a movie theatre screen while I, as well as my guest musicians, play in sync.  There are 30 scores being performed and you don’t want to miss this one-time event… an event which Scarborough deserves and only Scarborough will have.

And if that wasn’t enough, you will be able to purchase popcorn from an old-fashioned popcorn stand along with beverages and enjoy while watching the show.  During intermission there will also be a bake sale of expertly baked pies, breads, and pastries.  GCPC’s newly-produced Christmas cards will also be available for purchase.

The event is pay what you wish, with a suggested donation of $20 per person based on what we believe reflects the quality of the event that you will be partaking in.  Regardless, we are grateful for whatever you are able to give.  All proceeds for the entire evening will go towards the Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church Nativity Set Fundraiser.  Local artists have been commissioned to create a brand-new nativity scene and the goal is to have it completed and installed in front of the Church Hall just in time for the Christmas season!  Consider that as the years go by when you drive by the church and you will know you were a direct part in its construction through your generosity!

It is my hope that especially after a two-year hiatus because of a global pandemic, that you will be able to support and attend in person.  However, should you not be able to participate in person, or have relatives or friends from afar that would like to see this lucrative event, we will be broadcasting the event live.  Donations can still be made by mailing a cheque to Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church.  The virtual option link will be live at 6:45pm on Saturday night.

Here’s to innovative music in our community!

With Every Good Wish,

– Brooks Gorst
